Anti-Bullying & Harassment Policy

Bridlewood Academy is committed to maintaining a safe, civil, and supportive learning environment. The school prohibits harassment, intimidation, and bullying of any student, in keeping with the South Carolina Safe School Climate Act (S.C. Code Ann. §§ 59-63-110 et seq.).

What Is Prohibited

Harassment, intimidation, or bullying means a gesture, an electronic communication, or a written, verbal, physical, or sexual act that a reasonable person should know will harm a student physically or emotionally, damage a student’s property, place a student in reasonable fear of harm or damage to property, or insult or demean a student or group of students and cause substantial disruption to the orderly operation of the school. This includes cyberbullying.

This prohibition applies on school grounds, at school-sponsored activities and events, on school transportation, at school bus stops, using email and/or social media accounts, and through the use of school technology or electronic devices.

Reporting

  • Students, parents, guardians, and staff are encouraged to report any incident of harassment, intimidation, or bullying to Principal Michael Manning.
  • Reports may be made in person or in writing, and provisions are made for anonymous reporting.
  • School staff who observe or receive a report of such conduct are required to report it promptly to Principal Michael Manning.

Response

Reported incidents will be promptly investigated. The school will take appropriate action, which may include disciplinary consequences consistent with the student code of conduct, as well as support and intervention for students who are affected. The well-being and safety of the targeted student will be a priority throughout.

Protection From Retaliation

Retaliation against any person who reports, or participates in an investigation of, harassment, intimidation, or bullying is prohibited and will be treated as a separate violation of this policy.
